EXCITING NEWS FOR ROMANCE WRITERS AND ACADEMICS!
My PhD research has identified a new subgenre of romance which will be known as Post-Trauma Romance. This identification has possible implications for romance, literary, trauma, psychoanalytic, and gender theory. I am delighted to be at the forefront of research in this field and look forward to the development of this subgenre and its associated theories. This leads to the question: what is post-trauma romance? Here is the definition: a work of fiction that conveys a traumatic experience and the processes of recovery from the traumatic experience within a romantic narrative. More specifically, to classify as a post-trauma romance story, it must contain the following four elements: 1. Feature a love story with a HEA (happily ever after) or HFN (happy for now) as a central element of the narrative 2. Feature at least one main love interest who has experienced trauma 3. Describe and/or explore the trauma, and its associated symptoms 4. Include a representation of post-trauma recovery attempts in the narrative I am writing a post-trauma romance novel as part of my thesis. Throughout my PhD journey, I will continue to share my findings related to this new field. At this time, I would like to extend a massive thank you to my supervisors, Dr Nicole and Dr Jan, as well as CQUniversity for their enthusiastic support of my research. . #posttraumaromance #traumaromance #posttraumaromancewriting #traumaromancewriting #romancewriting #romancenews #romancesubgenre #newromancesubgenre #romancecommunity #romancewriters #romancewritersnews
